province. As the title “kannawidan”
which means a tradition. “Kannawidan

Coming
in the midst of Ilocanos are the festivities which will surely allure our
hearts to encompass the true essence of being a proud individual. It gives us a
glimpse of how was the life before and how shall we face it today. People have
experienced the thrill and fun in this year’s Kannawidan Festival.
The
Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur never fails to continue its outstanding
ventures to enjoin the people together. Governor Singson mentioned: “We want to
preserve our heritage, considering that Vigan is now included in the New Seven
Wonder Cities of the world. The youth has a vital role in prospering our
culture and be able to foster a genuine view of how can we sustain this
milestone.” This year brings us lots of
changes and innovation as Gov. Ryan preferred it from a week of festivities
extending it to almost a month, in order to have longer time to enjoy the
event, giving opportunities to our constituents.
The
Kannawidan Festival was opened with a mass at St. Paul Cathedral and the scenic
procession of all the Municipal patrons around the heritage city of Vigan to
give thanks as well as to pray for blessings in the coming festivities.

gatherings have always been a venue for Ilocanos, sharing and exchanging
thoughts, views and insights on how to preserve and perpetuate the beautiful
customs and traditions. May this continue and we, Ilocanos must work as one in
the spirit of unity, to love our own culture and arts. Moreover, let us all
